The American ideal of “innocent until proven guilty” is flipped on its head by our cash bail system. Those without funds to post bail can languish in jail for months or even years awaiting trial, meanwhile losing their job, housing and even custody of their children – losses that may never be reversed even when the person is ultimately acquitted of wrong-doing. Representatives of Arch City Defenders will fill us in on the savings available to citizens and to the city budget by eliminating this outdated system.
