Many of NCJW’s core issues are in the news … and we want to keep our members up-to-date on the details through our Third Thursdays series of informative Lunch and Learn sessions at the NCJW offices, 295 N. Lindbergh in Creve Coeur. We will begin gathering at 11:30 and our top-tier speaker(s) will be from noon to 1:00 pm. Bring your lunch, we will provide drinks. It’s also a great opportunity to introduce a friend to NCJW’s impressive advocacy work. Former state Senator Jeff Smith spent time in prison for violating federal election laws during his 2004 campaign for Congress. Upon release, he was hired by the New School in New York City and authored the book “Mr. Smith Goes to Prison.” His program will include experiences from his time in prison, and how the prison system is ineffective when it comes to treatment, education and other challenges prisoners face upon re-entry. Jeff will suggest policy changes that could help avoid recidivism, and therefore lessen the financial and emotional toll imprisonment takes on family members. Please RSVP to Lisa at 314-993-5181 or firstname.lastname@example.org so that we can be sure to have adequate seating.
